“Dinner in the Garden” featuring de la boue wines.

This dinner will be taking place at my personal home in Chapel Hill, where I have been steadily rebuilding my farm from the ground up after leaving Oregon.

The evening will start before sunset, where guests will be welcomed with a specialty drink and snacks while they explore the grounds and see all the projects that are unfolding. Guests can go visit with the ducks, see the “Secret Garden” area where the bees will live, and wildflower patches planted with native flowers for the bees to snack on. Oh, and don’t forget about the newest addition, the chickens. Maybe I will even let you name one.

We will then gather around tables located next to the freshly tilled flower beds, some planted with the first crops of the season, others with cover crops to prepare for the next plantings.

I will be preparing a menu for dinner that pairs specifically to Travis’ wines. My hope is that I will make the wines sing and encourage you to get on his allocation list, as all of his wines are currently sold out. Making this dinner extra special.

The most important part of this evening for me is giving my friends and supporters a chance to see first hand what it is that I am doing. To see how each piece of this farm works together in symbiosis. It’s not just about flowers, it is about building a strong foundation in which to build upon. Starting with building soil health, feeding the pollinators, and giving back more than you take.

Seats for the dinner are gifts for donors. A donation of $130 will come with one seat at the table.

Travis makes limited production wines from single vineyard sites in Oregon. De la boue farms vineyards themself and also sources fruit from some very well-known growers in Willamette Valley and The Gorge. Travis started his wine career at Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana working up to wine buyer and running the wine program. Travis and his wife Tess moved to Oregon in 2017 inspired by his pursuit of a career in winemaking. He made his first 150 case production in 2019 and in 2021 he made it his full-time job.

We share very similar values when it comes to our work and how we strive to support small farmers and the land upon which we work daily. De la boue has three cornerstones that hit home for me, which I have listed below direct from their website.

1. #bluecollarequity we are passionate about rewarding the people that do the work.

2. #oregondirt we are lucky to farm in Oregon and we are focused on doing what's best for the land. De la boue translates to "of the dirt" we are getting dirty to keep it natural.

3. #yeschef you bring the food, we'll bring the wine. We have so much respect for the chefs, servers, and a hospitality industry at the center of so many magical moments for all of us. To those pursuing their craft with everything you have - thank you. We hope to be a small part of it.

The first time I read these pillars of business I felt seen. Which is why Travis was one of the first people I reached out to when I wanted to start this crowdfunding campaign for my farm.

Funny enough, Travis is from North Carolina too. We both went to East Carolina University but never crossed paths during our time in Greenville, NC. It was almost 10 years later, on a sidewalk in Hood River, Oregon, where I met Travis. We were attending a mutual friend’s wedding and just so happened to both step outside to catch some fresh air from the dance floor. After piecing together our strange interwoven tales of life, we discovered how much we have in common and how both of our journeys lead us into the wine industry. I had been working at Big Table Farm as the Cellar Master and recently left to start my own farm in Yamhill, OR and he had just started his own wine label.
